Frequently Asked Questions about the Brand.
Are Provamel and Alpro soya the same company? Both Provamel and Alpro are owned by the same company. The main distinction between the two is that Provamel is made from certified organic soya beans and is available exclusively from independent Health Food stores whilst Alpro is principally available in supermarkets.
Isn’t Alpro organic? The sheer scale of the Alpro soya brand means that whilst their beans are ethically sourced, non-GM and fully traceable, it simply isn’t feasible to gain Organic certification for the entire Alpro range.
Are all Provamel products made from certified organic soya beans? Yes, without exception - both our Tofu and soya ranges.
Why can’t I get Provamel in the Supermarkets? Provamel is a range developed specifically with the needs of the Health Food industry in mind. Like them, we have strong opinions on ethical, environmental and health matters. The knowledge, expertise and opinions you receive from your local Health Food store are in line with ours and unfortunately cannot always be replicated in the supermarkets.
Do any Provamel products contain added Calcium? Yes, as a result of requests from our customers, four of our products contain added calcium. These are our Unsweetened +calcium+vits soya milk, Sweetened +calcium+vits soya milk, Chocolate Dessert + calcium +vits and our Vanilla Dessert + calcium +vits.
Is the Calcium you add Organic? We have experimented with the only known natural (as opposed to mineral) organic calcium - Algae Lithothamnium calcareum – however this was not universally well received and resulted in products that fell below our normal high standards. As a consequence we have reverted to using a conventional calcium which for strictly legal reasons cannot be termed organic. Despite being overwhelmingly made from organic ingredients, those products that contain added calcium do not therefore carry the organic symbol.
