GLUTEN INTOLERANCE

Gluten intolerance, otherwise known as coeliac disease, is a GENETIC CONDITION. Simply put, the delicate lining of the small intestine cannot absorb gluten. So when foods containing wheat (such as spelt and kamut), oat, rye and barley are consumed, the body reacts negatively. Symptoms vary, but they can include bowel problems, weight loss, abdominal pain, stomach ache and fatigue. Going on a GLUTEN-FREE DIET (supervised by your dietician) can be the solution. Gluten intolerance needn’t cramp your lifestyle. Most of our products are gluten free, apart from a few exceptions like our oat and spelt drinks. So you can still enjoy tucking into our delicious range of foods. We’ve stamped a gluten-free LOGO on our PACKAGING so that you know which products are 100% gluten-free.

 

How can products containing wheat components still be gluten-free?

 

Let’s break it down. The WHEAT PROTEINS which contain gluten can be separated from the wheat starch. And the wheat starch only contains sugars which, we are happy to announce, are GLUTEN-FREE. So, our products made with WHEAT-SYRUP are still gluten free.

LACTOSE INTOLERANCE

SYMPTOMS


Lactose intolerance is an inability to digest the naturally occurring sugar, called lactose, typically found in ANIMAL MILKS and just about any DAIRY PRODUCT such as cheese, cream and yogurt. Absorbing even tiny amounts can result in a sore tummy, bloating, cramps, flatulence and diarrhoea as lactose intolerant people lack the enzyme called LACTASE that digests the lactose. If you have any of these symptoms, it could mean you are unable to properly digest lactose.


GUT FEELING


For anyone who thinks they might be intolerant to lactose, experts recommend removing foods containing lactose from your diet. If you follow a LACTOSE-FREE DIET for more than a couple of weeks, consult the advice of a dietician. They can check that you are getting all the NUTRIENTS you need. Once the tummy recovers, small amounts of lactose can be slowly reintroduced, always checking to see how the stomach is responding. Our products do not contain lactose. Pull up a chair, sit down to a good meal. You can now replace those annoying postprandial stomach gripes with calm satisfaction. Anyone for a second helping?

COW'S MILK ALLERGY

HOLY COW!


Some of us have an allergy to cow’s milk. In most cases it affects CHILDREN and they usually outgrow the allergy from the AGE OF 3. It’s the PROTEIN in the milk that causes the problem. The body's defence mechanism reacts whenever the protein is absorbed – even though the substance isn’t hazardous in itself. Just like any other allergy, the smallest amount can trigger an ALLERGIC REACTION.

 

Symptoms vary according to the individual, and can range from cramps in the intestines, vomiting or diarrhea, to respiratory tract or skin problems. In rare cases, the reaction can be severe resulting in anaphylaxis. If you have an allergy to cow's milk, experts recommend cutting out all cow's milk proteins from your diet. Good news: none of our products contain cow's milk protein.

 

Since our food philosophy is PLANT-BASED and dairy-free our products are the real deal. No need to hide away in the kitchen corner.

NUT ALLERGIES

Yes, but seriously, if your body reacts badly after eating nuts, you are probably allergic. You can be allergic to one or several nuts. A nut allergy is an OVERREACTION to the allergens; in this case the nuts, in your body. SYMPTOMS can range from a tingling in the mouth and lips, a swollen face, nausea to wheezing, difficulty breathing or a tightening of your throat. 


NUT PROOF


The good news is that we are producing hazelnut and almond drinks in SEPARATE LOCATIONS from where we produce our Rice Unsweetened Drink, Rice Calcium Drink, Oat Drink and all our soya products. Recently we decided to anticipate on integrating the production of almond and hazelnut containing products at the site where we produce our Rice Unsweetened Drink, Rice Calcium Drink, Oat Drink and all our soya products. Production lines at this site will be dedicated to producing soy, rice and oat drinks or to almond, hazelnut and coconut drinks. Any avoidable RISK of cross-contamination is thus EXCLUDED.

 

In our production site where we produce our Provamel blends, our almond, hazelnut, spelt, macadamia, cashew and coconut drinks, all measures are taken to avoid possible cross-contaminations. However there is limited experience yet about nut allergen management on these specific production lines. Only if validation of the production lines confirms there is no avoidable risk for cross-contamination, the claim might be removed. As we believe HONESTY is the best policy, these drinks will have the LABELING 'may contain traces of'.
