Soya

Our organic, non-GMO soya beans come from Europe, mainly from France, Italy and Austria, where we know exactly where. how and by whom they've been grown, and how planet-friendly they are. You can be 100% sure that our soya does not come from deforested areas. Soya is one of the most sustainable crops worldwide. Soy production has low impact in terms of carbon emissions, land usage, water and fertilisers. It is a crop that is grown in rotation, which is beneficial for soil quality and biodiversity. We only select the particular varieties that contain high quality proteins, and all our soybeans are 100% Pro Terra certified: a label applied only to ecologically sustainable, social responsible and non-GMO sourced soybeans and a standard that is very strictly controlled and audited.

Almond

Our organic almonds come from the Mediterranean region where we work closely with local farmers to ensure we get the best quality nuts grown in the most sustainable way. We want to help our farmers understand more about biodiversity and their local water usage. Currently, together with WWF, IUCN (The International Union for Conservation of Nature) and our local partners, we are testing various methods in order to set meaningfull sustainability targets.

Oat

We use carefully selected organic oats grown in Europe. Oats are a very sustainable crops, with little ecological impact compared to other cereals. Just like soy, it has a low carbon footprint and uses a small amount of land to produce much. No extra watering is required, limited use of fertilisers is needed and they are no pesticides used. Plus, the whole plant gets used, nothing is wasted. Provamel may only use the flowering seedheads of the oats but the stems are also harvested and are used to enrich the soil.

Coconut

Good to know, coconut cultivation does not have a large environmental footprint. Coconuts grow all year round, and are harvested throughout the year, every three months to be exact. It takes seven years from planting for the first coconuts to appear, and the palm trees stay productive until they reach the ripe old age of 100 years – so there is practically no deforestation. In addition, the use of fertilisers is very limited or not needed at all, no chemical pesticides are used and the lush, humid tropical environment means that irrigation is never required. After harvest, every part of the coconut is used. The coconut water and meat go into foods and drinks, while the husk and shell are used to create coconut oil, biomass or even furniture.

Sustainable organic sourcing & harvesting

For our soya, oats, rice or almonds (or hazelnuts), we prefer working with small, local organic farmers in Europe instead of the big players in the global market. That way, we develop long lasting, personal relationships with our producers based on mutual respect and trust. They know they have a safe and secure future with us, we know we're getting the best of their harvest. When we do have to look worldwide for ingredients, such as cocoa, we make sure that our sources are sustainable. All the ingredients that we source are vegan, GMO-free and organic.
